Leeuwin Ocean Adventures, Fremantle, Western Australia

The STS Leeuwin II is a three-masted barquentine with over 810 square metres of sail and an overall length of 55 metres, with 16 sails and twin diesel engines for close manoeuvrings. She is Australia’s largest ocean-going tall ship and is primarily used as a training platform, where people learn to live and work together as a `Team`.

Leeuwin programs have been specifically tailored to enable participants, irrespective of age, gender and experience to extend their physical and psychological limits in a nurturing, non-competitive environment that builds respect for others and their achievements. Leeuwin voyages are no holiday – but they are fun by the bucket load, you will return recharged and rejuvenated. The program is designed to induce in participants a sense of personal achievement through the extension of personal limits. The voyages are suitable for people aged 15 - 100 years.

STS Leeuwin is owned and operated by Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation Ltd, which is a private non-profit organisation based in Fremantle. All profits made are used to provide disadvantaged and disabled youth with sails to boost confidence, self-esteem and help overcome personal challenges.

Youth Explorer Voyages

Youth Explorer Voyages are recommended for young people aged 15-25 years. The voyages are challenging but inspiring. Trainees have the opportunity to become involved in every aspect of operating a traditional square-rigger. Day and Twilight Sails

Leeuwin II offers short day and twilight sails to the public and to schools. The sails range from three to five hours in length. These short sails are relaxing and a great day out, with a meal provided during the day sail and canapés on the twilight sail. For those that would like to do more than relax whilst onboard the ship, you can participate in line hauling, helming, climbing the foremast or taking a ship tour. The level of activities available is subject to the weather.

Adult Adventure Voyages

These voyages are for adults with a sense of adventure. The Leeuwin II provides adults with the opportunity to learn to sail Australia`s largest ocean-going sail training ship, while experiencing emotional, physical and mental challenges, yet at the same time having fun and making new friends.

The voyages are suitable for all interests, from keen sailors to people who have never sailed before, to retirees looking to make their heart beat a little faster with stories to tell their family and friends.

It is an exciting opportunity to learn to sail a tall ship as it was historically in the nineteenth century, with the advantage of today`s modern facilities.

Adult voyages vary in length from two to ten nights.
