The agricultural town of Katanning is located three hours drive southeast of Perth and is a service centre to 20,000 people.
The establishment of a brick works for the foundation of the town leaves a rich heritage of federation buildings. As a growing community, Katanning services the needs of an agricultural and professional population.
Katanning is one of the most multicultural communities in Western Australia with large Noongar, Malay, Afghan, and Chinese populations as well as representatives of many other cultural groups. This has resulted in a wide range of regular community events including the Multicultural Festival held in March each year and many art exhibitions.
Katanning also features the Katanning Leisure and Function Centre which is one of the largest Leisure Centres outside the Metro area. The Leisure Centre is the focal point of recreation and social events within Katanning and the surrounding districts.
The centre hosts a wide range of exercise classes, social and organised sports, community functions and activity programs for youth and seniors and has previously hosted events such as Perth Wildcats basketball matches.
In addition to recreational facilities the Centre also caters for functions and conferences with the Pioneer Room being able to facilitate banquet style dinners for up to 250 people.
Hotel, motel and caravan park facilities are available.
