This Museum was the first permanent school in Katanning and was opened in
1899.
The town was growing rapidly at this time, and it was soon outgrown.
The school was moved to the site of the present Katanning primary school.

Overlooking the town is the lovely Kobeelya, originally the home of Frederick Henry Piesse. Built in 1902 it still retains the charm of yesteryear in a spacious parkland setting.
After being used for a girls boarding school from 1922 to 1986, it is now a conference centre run in conjunction with the Katanning Baptist Church.

Mungart Boodja Art Centre is located three hours drive from Perth in the heart of the Great Southern region of Western Australia.
Mungart is the Noongar name for the Jam Tree, the material Noongar people used in the past to make traditional artefacts and bush foods. In 1904 F.H. Piesse built a winery. Orchards and vineyards extended from the front of Kobeelya across the face of the hillside. The winery is now a ruin.
Visitors may enjoy clambering over the dreams of yesterday. The towering remains of the turreted distillery, built in 1910, shows the skill and precision of builders who worked with the locally made bricks. The brick vats can still be seen, and there is an interesting display of old ploughs and machinery.Old Winery

The statue of the founder of the town, Mr Frederick H. Piesse, was sculptured
by P.C. Porcelli, a well known artist in the early days of the state.

This is the place where the first police were stationed in the area. There was no town at this time in 1864. Sandalwood cutters, drovers and the first settlers were in the district and the troopers as they were called, were stationed at the water hole as an outpost from Kojonup.

A short drive or bike-hike from Katanning is the Memorial Cairn that marks the
completion of the Great Southern Railway. The railway was built by the Western Australia Land Company and joined at this spot in 1889.
Track layers started at Beverley and Albany. This was the start of the town
of Katanning and although the district was settled, Kojonup was the only town that had been started. Broomehill and Cartmeticup were settlements.Railway Memorial Cairn

Situated in the centre of the town is the old mill, built in 1889 by the brothers Frederick and Charles Piesse.
The mill comprises three floors and a cellar. The interior is full of machines, flywheels and fascinating works.
The mill is recognised by the National Trust and is to be restored. Tours of the mill can be arranged with prior notice.The Old Mill via Katanning
