Pigeon Heritage Trail, Derby, Western Australia

This self guiding drive trail tells the story of the Aboriginal Jandamarra, better known as Pigeon, who was shot dead by a police tracker in April 1897 after a three year manhunt throughout the King Leopold Ranges.

The trail is in two sections. The Derby townsite section includes the boab prison tree, the pioneer cemetery and the old Derby Gaol. The second section begins at Windjana Gorge in the Napier Range some two hours drive from Derby. It includes Windjana Gorge, Tunnel Creek and Lillimooloora Police Station ruins.

Trail brochures are available from the Derby Visitor Centre or the Western Australian Heritage Committee, 184 St Georges Terrace, Perth.
