Wilderness Air takes you by seaplane to land on the pristine lower reaches of the Gordon River. You depart from Strahan Harbour flying out to the rugged west coast, over Ocean Beach and the Southern Ocean, then down Macquarie Harbour, passing over the infamous convict prison on Sarah Island. From here you follow the bends of the mighty Gordon River before landing, about 35 kilometres inland, on the River`s narrow reaches at Sir John Falls.
You have time to wander the elevated walkway to the Falls past ancient Huon pine, myrtle and rainforest undergrowth.

Scenic Seaplane Flights Tour
Flights depart Strahan Harbour heading out to Ocean Beach and Hell`s Gates, the entrance to Macquarie Harbour.
You then travel down the western side of the Harbour, passing over the former convict prison on Sarah Island, to the mouth of the Gordon River.
Your flight follows the River passing Horseshoe Bend and Lime Kiln Reach. At this point it heads out across the Elliot Range into the Franklin River valley, following the Franklin until it joins the Gordon River.
In 1982, the entire valley was saved from flooding when the controversial Gordon below Franklin dam project was stopped by international and national protests.
Just below the junction of the Gordon and Franklin rivers you will see the original dam site that is over 240 metres (800 feet) deep.
From here the flight takes you through the steep valleys of the Gordon River for a spectacular seaplane landing, approximately 35 kilometres (21 miles) upstream from the mouth.
You step out onto a pontoon and take a short walk on an elevated boardwalk through the rainforest to Sir John Falls. Here you see ancient rainforest and Huon pine and myrtle trees.
Your return flight follows the rest of the Gordon out to Lime Kiln Reach, and up the eastern side of Macquarie Harbour and onto Strahan.
