Battery Point is named after a battery of guns (long since removed) that were established on the point in 1818. Battery Point and Salamanca have a number of galleries, art studios, antique and craft shops, restaurants and cafes. There are a huge number of heritage and National Trust-listed buildings in the area, including the Georgian sandstone warehouses of Salamanca Place. Battery Point Garden Studio is a short walk from Salamanca, the Hobart waterfront and central business district.
