Hawker, the next town is 52 kilometres south and is the lunch stop. It will be pre ordered and waiting for you. Enjoy the outback hospitality of this small town, and then continue south another 71 kilometres to Quorn arriving approximately 4:00pm. Explore the town and its history, have a coffee at the Austral with your tour friends before you settle in to your room. Dinner at the Austral Hotel at 6:30pm will be something you would not have expected in this small out-back town.
Day Three - Quorn to Melrose 98 kilometres.
Breakfast at the Austral Hotel, and then depart Quorn at approximately 9:30 am for a very picturesque 40-kilometre ride through Pichi Richi Pass to Stirling North. Lunch will be provided today. The next 24-kilometre stage we’ve called Roubaix. Not as bad as the French cobbles but it will give you a feel for the real thing and the view is splendid. After a brief drink stop and rest another 34 kilometres of good road with some climbing as you negotiate Horrock’s Pass. Take in the views over the gulf and then a very easy ride past centaury old river gums to Melrose at the base of Mt. Remarkable. Take a short bush walk or just relax at the hotel. Something different again for dinner at 6:30pm at the quirky Northern Star Hotel.
Day Four - Melrose to Jamestown 120 kilometres.
Today is another great ride. After breakfast at the Northern Star, be ready to leave at 9:30am for the first 55-kilometre stage. A 15 kilometre warm up before descending Pt. Germain Gorge, followed by a refreshment stop at the base to prepare you for the climb back up the gorge (it looks different going the other way). Then on to Wirrabara for well deserved lunch at the famous bakery. You won’t believe the selection on the menu. After lunch, 56 kilometres continuing through this beautiful country to Laura, the home of South Australia’s Golden North Ice Cream. Try some at the Laura Lolly Shop in the main street. Then onto Gladstone and past the historic gaol following the trans continental east-west Indian-Pacific Railway to Jamestown. Take time to reflect as you enjoy an alfresco drink at the Commercial Hotel when you reach Jamestown. Dinner 6:30pm tonight in the Commercial Hotel.
Day Five - Jamestown to Clare 125 kilometres.
Assemble after breakfast outside the Commercial Hotel and enjoy that last minute coffee before we depart at 9:00am for the 80-kilometre leg before lunch. Always changing countryside today from pine forest plantations to cropping and sheep grazing country, copper mines to wine country all in one day. Have a cappuccino or a latté at Spalding one of the last places you’d expect to find a coffee shop then stop for lunch at the historic mining town of Burra, once the largest town outside Adelaide. After lunch a very pleasant 40-kilometre ride to Clare. Relax, have a spa and enjoy the facilities at the Quality Resort Clare Country Club. Or maybe some wine tasting at one of the local wineries before dinner in the resort dining room at 6:30pm.
