Join Cycling Tours Australia for a ride from Glenelg along the coast to Moana, then inland to the fabulous wine country of McLaren Vale for some wine tasting, coastal ride through Aldinga Beach and Port Willunga and back to McLaren Vale.
Day One – Adelaide to McLaren Vale 45 kilometres. Level easy/moderate. This morning you leave from Glenelg, Adelaide’s premier seaside suburb. Ride along the coast through the suburbs of Somerton Park, Brighton, Seacliff, Port Noarlunga and Moana. Along the way there will be many opportunities to have a swim, grab a bite to eat overlooking the magnificent coast and visit galleries. From Moana you head inland, along a disused railway track, towards the famous wine region of McLaren Vale. Spend the afternoon exploring the town of McLaren Vale. Visit the many cafes, restaurants, galleries and shops that sell local products and don’t forget to visit the Medlow Confectionery outlet to try the heritage listed Fruchocs. Tonight at McLaren Vale.
Day Two – McLaren Vale to Willunga the Coast and back to McLaren Vale 50 kilometres. Level easy. Today’s ride will take you out through the Main Street of McLaren Vale, through local vineyards, past restaurants and wineries where you will have the opportunity to taste some of Australia’s finest wines. Your first stop will be the historic township of Willunga. Take your time wandering through the galleries, local produce stores and cafes that line High Street. If you have arrived on a Saturday morning a visit to the Willunga Produce Market is a must. From Willunga you head towards the coast where the ride follows the Esplanade through Aldinga Beach and Port Willunga, taking in the spectacular cliffs that overlook some of South Australia’s most scenic and yet safest swimming beaches. Don’t forget your bathers (swimsuit). Stop for breakfast or lunch and soak up the view. From the coast you ride back past olive groves, wineries and orchards to McLaren Vale.
Day Three – McLaren Vale to Adelaide. Level very easy (no riding today). This morning we pick you up from your accommodation and drive you back to Adelaide.

Day Three - McLaren Vale to Victor Harbor 56 kilometres. Level varied. Today you will ride out of McLaren Vale, through vineyards and past wineries on your way to the historic township of Willunga. After a visit to Willunga you will ride on the King of the Mountain part of the Tour Down Under route. Ride along country roads past farms that sell blueberry jam, cherries and other seasonal fruits. At the end of today’s ride you will be rewarded with a spectacular view over the seaside township of Victor Harbor, Encounter Bay and Granite Island. Tonight at Victor Harbor.
Day Four – Victor Harbor to Encounter Bikeway 45 kilometres. Level easy. Today you can decide to explore Victor Harbor, catch the horse drawn tram over the causeway to Granite Island, or ride the Encounter Bikeway from Victor Harbor to Goolwa, approximately 45 kilometres. The Encounter Bikeway follows the coast taking you past the million dollar beach houses, which sit above the surf beaches of Boomer and Middleton. At certain times of the year you can see whales with their calves frolicking off Basham Beach, near Port Elliot. Visit Horseshoe Bay, Port Elliot and enjoy a swim followed by fish and chips at the Flying Fish Cafe or have lunch at the Aqua Cafe or Hectors on the Wharf, at Goolwa, and watch the river boats cruise the River Murray. Tonight at Victor Harbor.
Day Five – Victor Harbor to Adelaide. Level very easy (no riding today). This morning we pick you up from your accommodation and drive you back to Adelaide, through what should be by now, familiar territory. Arrive back in Adelaide around midday.
