Our Explore the Outback Camel Safaris are based in the central Australian deserts near William Creek along the Oodnadatta Track (Lake Eyre, South Australia), and operate from April through to October every year.

We employ experts in outback desert ecology and cultural history to lead the safaris to provide you with a rewarding and educational adventure.

Entirely self contained, our camels carry everything including water, food, sleeping equipment and most importantly, you. We travel into highly valued pristine desert landscapes where remoteness and unspoilt wilderness will surround you.

Desert Camel Trek Five Days - EOCS01

The five day desert trek offers a memorable look into the remote, heritage-rich and beautiful desert country about the Oodnadatta Track (west of Lake Eyre) in Outback South Australia. With a focus on ecological and cultural research/survey, each trek is uniquely different and intriguingly educational.

As Explore the Outback Camel Safaris is a research based camel trek operation, no two treks are the same, however each trek incorporates:
. Four days of remote outback camel riding.
. Wildlife identification and bird watching.
. Historic research and interpretation.
. Ecological and cultural research and interpretation.
. General exploration.
. Camel handling and management.
. Outdoor camping and navigation.
. Casual atmosphere with no hectic schedules.

Most treks are also able to look at:
. Remains of the original single-wire Overland Telegraph Line, the adjacent camel servicing pad and remains of the isolated Peake Overland Telegraph Line Repeater Station, copper mine and pastoral ruins.
. Faint remains of the original north-south Wagon Road, along which central Australia was settled - the original Stuart Highway proper.
. Impressive artesian mound springs and spring flows that vent on a fault line along the eastern edge of the Kingston, Denison and Davenport Ranges.
. Unique Australian wildlife such us the euro, Red kangaroo, emu, echidna, Bourke parrot, dingo and much more.
. Evidence of early Aboriginal occupation.
. Old copper mines, stone miner`s hut ruins and original copper roads used by early pioneering miners.

The six day desert trek offers and extended look into the remote, heritage rich and beautiful desert country about the Oodnadatta Track (west of Lake Eyre) in outback South Australia. With a focus on ecological and cultural research/survey, this trek allows for a greater emphasis on exploration and travel into new country.

The Eight Day Desert Exploration Trek offers and extended exploration of the remote, heritage rich and beautiful desert country about the Oodnadatta Track (west of Lake Eyre) in Outback South Australia. With a key focus on exploration, the seven day desert trek allows for a greater emphasis on ecological and cultural research and survey in exciting new country about the more distant Davenport Range, Kingston Range or the Weedina Dune Fields to the west.
