This unique journey explores issues of culture, land rights and development that concern the Arabunna Aboriginal people in the far north of South Australia. We will hear the Dreaming stories that explain and connect the community and their ancestors to this vast landscape.
In the company of Arabunna guides, we travel north from Adelaide alongside the spectacular Flinders Ranges and on to the plains beyond. In Marree, we meet the Arabunna community and learn about traditional ways, local history and the impact of mining.
We travel along the legendary Oodnadatta Track exploring the ancient, natural wonders of the Lake Eyre basin, sampling bush tucker and discovering bush medicines and other desert resources. We camp at Alberrie Creek and Coward Springs where we sleep under the stars in bush swags.
We will hear stories about the old Ghan Railway, the Overland Telegraph, the Afghans, the missions and the mines.
Travelling south, we visit the remote Finniss Springs Mission. People who grew up on this mission will share their personal stories with you.
Enjoy a final night of damper and a yarn around the campfire.
This is a rewarding experience that strengthens understanding and reconciliation.
