Kingston Historic House

Built in 1840, Kingston House is one of South Australia`s oldest remaining houses. It is still being used today. The quiet beauty and hidden charm of the House and Reserve make it a favourite picnic spot for visitors.

It was the country home of the Kingston Family - a family who were extremely influetial in the founding of the South Australian Colony and of the Nation.
George Strickland Kingston came to South Australia aboard the `Cygnet` in 1836 as Deputy Surveyor to Colonel Light.

Delicious Devonshire Teas are served from the first Sunday in March until the last Sunday in November from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. The House is open on the first, second, third and fifth Sunday of each month.

The grounds are often used for weddings and ceremonies, together with tennis court for hire.

An interactive display tells the story of the house and its occupants.

Tjilbruke Monument by John Dowie stands on the headland and commemorates a legend of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains. A fresh water spring which flows on the beach below is part of that legend.
