AFL Womens National Championships

Cairns will host the AFL Women`s National Championships, a bi-annual event of the AFL sporting calendar which sees every state and territory represented. Cairns` successful tender for the event will see the 13th National Championships contested outside a capital city for the first time in their 20 year history.
The desirable location of Cairns, along with the infrastructure and personnel, affordability and weather were all factors in Cairns being awarded this June/July event (exact dates still to be determined). AFL Cairns and it`s premier facility, Cazalys Stadium have hosted many such events, including the 2009 AFL Masters National Carnival and it`s annual AFL Premiership match between Richmond and Gold Coast Suns (2011 - 2013).
It is anticipated the five day event will attract 250 competitors and in excess of 2,000 spectators to the region.
