Winding through the spectacular Blackall Range, a cool retreat in the hinterland of Queensland`s Sunshine Coast, the Sunshine Coast Great Walk traverses some of Queensland`s most scenic natural areas in Kondalilla and Mapleton Falls National Parks, Maleny and Mapleton Forest Reserves, and Delicia Road Conservation Park.
With remnants of warm subtropical rainforest, tall open eucalypt forest and picturesque waterfalls, these scenic and impressive natural areas offer walkers a myriad of experiences.
Some of the highlights on the Great Walk include Kondalilla Falls, where Skene Creek drops 90 metres into the rainforest and the spectacular valleys and gorges of Obi Obi, as well as Baxter and Gheerulla Creeks and the wide variety of wildlife.
Over 100 species of birds, 70 reptile species and more than 30 frog species have been recorded in the area. Watch overhead for soaring peregrine falcons. Listen for the wompoo fruit-dove or the rare Australian marsupial frog.
