Up to 250 species can be found around the Maningrida area and due to its remoteness the full birding potential and range of species is still to be discovered. This is one of Australia’s true pristine birding frontiers.
Dr Richard Noske, Senior Lecturer in Biology at Charles Darwin University’s School of Environmental and Life Sciences, said that Arnhemland Bird Week provided significant breeding and range of information, ‘the number of Gouldian Finches we saw is definitely cause for excitement’. ‘The area is truly magical in its avain diversity, Dr Noske said.’
