The first film screenings for the Surf City Film Festival will feature Gidget (1959) and Blue Hawaii (1961). Gidget (1959) follows the story of Francis who has a run in with some surfers while swimming one day and becomes drawn to the sport, as well as the surfers. Blue Hawaii (1961) is an true Elvis classic.This musical follows protagonist Chad Gates as he returns to the surfing culture of Hawaii after serving in the army.Finding Antarctica: Mapping the Last Continent
It is one hundred years since Douglas Mawson led the 1911 to 1914 Australasian Antarctic Expedition (AAE), arriving on Macquarie Island on 11 December 1911. In celebration of this centenary, this exhibition will focus on the mapping of Antarctica from the 15th to the 21st century, from crude woodcut maps of the known world through to the latest satellite imagery.
