Cuttabri, on the old Cobb & Co line to Pilliga, is steeped in history. All that remains at Cuttabri is a wine shanty and historical museum.
The wine shanty enjoys the distinction of holding the second liquor licence issued in Australia in 1882. It is the only wine shanty still operating in Australia today and includes many pioneering artifacts. The 106 year old building next to the Cobb and Co change station is sited alongside the still standing original Post Office and Telegraph Station.
Nearby in picturesque surrounds lies the headstone of the original owner`s son William John Trindall, killed 1888.
The country around offers tours of the Australian Telescope at Narrabri, cotton industry tours, 2 hot bore baths, wineries and unique flora/fauna of Pilliga scrub. Also within easy driving distance are the Warrambungle range and Lightning Ridge opal fields.
A visitors book at the shanty bears names of travellers from all over Australia who have either happened upon it, or made a pilgrimage to soak up the history of the area.
Meals are available (great place for Lunch or an evening meal) also BBQ and camp oven dining facilities.
