Destinations -> New South Wales -> Hume Area
Hume Shire Council takes its name from the early explorer, Hamilton Hume, who, together with William Hovell made the first recorded crossing of the Murray River in 1824. Towns and villages emerged within the Shire following early expeditions, the largest of which are Howlong and Jindera. Other smaller towns include Brocklesby, Burrumbuttock, Gerogery and Lake Hume Village.
The shire's history is evident through its length and breadth, with many tourist attractions and historical sites. A large part of the historic Hume and Hovell walking track traverses the shire. Accommodation is varied and includes motels, caravan parks and camping. Hume Shire offers many leisure activities either on the water or in the surrounding hills, and beautiful sights. We look forward to you visiting us soon.
