Cootamundra was first settled in the 1830’s. The town was built on what was originally a stock station called “Cootamondra” owned by pioneer, John Hurley. Today Cootamundra remains renowned for producing quality beef, lamb, and wool and is one of the state’s highest yielding wheat and canola regions.
Cootamundra is centrally located between Sydney and Melbourne; less than two (2) hours drive from Canberra and is just off the major road transport route, the Hume Highway. The town is on the main railway line between Sydney and Melbourne. It is the main railway interchange for passenger services in South Western New South Wales and offers an excellent rail service. This is supported by a large network of trucking and bus services to many outlying areas.
