Newcastle - The National Maritime Festival celebrates Newcastle`s rich maritime history and is now not only Newcastle`s longest running event, but one of Australia`s largest annual maritime festivals.
The National Maritime Festival was previously called The Newcastle Harbour Regatta, with the first regatta being held in 1834, consisting mainly of sailing events.
Later, the regatta format changed to include rowing races.
Today`s Festival includes a variety of activities on land and on water.
