  • All Saints Church Collie

    Collie - This striking landmark of the town of Collie is situated on the corner of Venn and Harvey streets. Built with money donated by a benefactress in far away England, it was proudly opened in 1915.

    Mrs Noyes, the benefactress, also gave the church a magnificent set of six polished brass candlesticks and an altar crucifix, which are believed to date from the 17th Century.

  • Anzac Park War Memorial

    Bunbury - The park is an attractive garden setting directly opposite Bunbury Post Office fronting the city`s modern Regional Library. It has a fine memorial to World War I armed forces.

    Alongside is a memorial to John and Helen Scott, the first farmers in the Bunbury District. They began work at Eelup Farm on Sir James Stirling`s property in 1838.

    Facilities include seating and a bird aviary.

  • Apple Funpark

    Donnybrook - Due to the generosity of local people, the biggest free entry Fun Park in Australia will be built on the corner of Collins and Reserve Streets in Donnybrook, Western Australia, with a grand opening scheduled for Easter 2008.

  • Arboretum

    Collie - A large collection of trees from all over the world can be found in the Arboretum which is situated on the opposite side of the Collie River near the Soldiers Park.

  • Australind Memorial

    Australind - Situated on the old coast road, 11 kilometres from Bunbury, is this interesting monument which commemorates the unsuccessful settlement of the area in 1841, by a band of pioneers led by Marshall Waller Clifton.

    The Western Australian company planned one of the most ambitious settlement projects in Australian history. Unfortunately the scheme failed due to lack of funds.

  • Ayers Gardens

    Donnybrook - The main feature of these gardens is the distinctive coloured lights in the shape of apples. There is a children`s playground, a display of Donnybrook stone, and the Old Oak Tree which was planted 1902.

  • Back Beach

    Back BeachBunbury - Back Beach is one of the most popular beaches in the Bunbury region. Located on Geographe Bay this pristine white sandy beach is an excellent spot for swimming, building sand castles, snorkeling and surfing.   • Basaltic Rock

    Bunbury - The Bunbury Basalt Rock, at the northern end of Ocean Beach, is formed from a volcanic lava flow believed to have occurred 150 million years ago in the Crataceous Period.

    Volcanic activity was quite extensive over the south west corner for a short period of time. Basalt rock is believed to erode and decompose over a long period of time, however a considerable amount of basalt can still be found from Bunbury to windy harbour, buried beneath sedimentary layers of sand and clay.   • Big Tree

    Collie - This tree is believed to be the biggest living jarrah tree in Collie region. It is 36 metres high and 10 metres in girth. It is anticipated to have 30 years of life left.

  • Boulters Heights

    Bunbury - Provides an excellent panorama of the city, port of Bunbury, north shore and the Leschenault Estuary. Access by foot can be taken from the junction of Stirling and Wittenoom Streets via the wooden staircase.

  • Bunbury Timber Jetty Preservation Museum

    Bunbury - The Bunbury Timber Jetty Environment and Conservation Museum can be found in Bunbury`s oldest building. Originally commissioned in 1864 as the town`s Post Office, this building later became the Courthouse. Inside can be found artefacts and photographs of the original timber jetty.

    Open every Monday and Thursday from 1000 to 1400 and entry is free.

    Collie - Restored heritage listed Railway Goods Shed containing artefacts and photos.

    Collie - Harris Dam was opened in 1990 to supply high quality drinking water to the Great Southern region. Before the dam was built, these communities were served by the Wellington Dam on the Collie River which developed problems of salinity (salt).

  • Harvey River Diversion

    Harvey - The Harvey River Diversion was built in the 1930s and was instigated due to the problem of flooding that took place every winter in the area. A channel was dug from Harvey to the sea at Myalup, it was extremely labour intensive and took several years to complete.

    A park has been set up at the Baker Street section of the Diverson there is a commemorative plaque to honour the men who dug the Diverson.

    Bunbury - King Cottage, built in the early 1880`s, was occupied by four generations of the King family. King Cottage became a local history museum in 1968. It houses a valuable collection of pioneer material of the area

  • Lighthouse Lookout

    Bunbury - This lighthouse is a striking landmark. It stands some 25 metres above the ground and its light is visible from 27 kilometres away. The original Lighhouse on Marlston Hill served for 33 years until 1903 when increased trade created the need for a more modern facility. It was moved to its present site in 1971.

    Bunbury - In the Leschenault Inlet, the southern-most mangroves in Western Australia are home to over 60 species of water bird.     Marlston Hill Lookout TowerBunbury - This viewpoint on Marlston Hill, the original site of Bunbury`s lighthouse, looks directly over a popular harbour beach, the small boat harbour and the breakwater reaching out from Casuarina Point.

  • Memorial Hall

    Donnybrook - Built of Donnybrook stone and situated in Bentley Street. The Memorial Hall is dedicated to those who lost their lives in World War I and it contains the public library.

    The foundation stone was laid in 1919. The front portion was built in 1899 and used as the Municipal Council Chambers. The hall additions were added on at a later date.

  • Minninup Pool

    Minninup PoolCollie - Located on the outskirts of Collie on the Mungalup Road, this wide stretch of the Collie River is an attractive and tranquil spot for swimming, picnicking, fishing and canoeing. The river tests the skills of fresh water anglers against trout, perch, and cobbler. Wildflowers are found in abundance in the surrounding bush during September to November and the Bibbulmun Track also passes close by the area.

  • Mosaic Footpath

    Collie - The mosaic footpath, completed in June 1995, by artist Miv Egan commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Collie to Donnybrook and return cycle race. It snakes its way down the sidewalk of Throssell Street, the main street in Collie which is also a heritage precinct, displaying many tiles made by the local school children.   • Old Railway Station Building Donnybrook

    Donnybrook - The Donnybrook Visitor Centre is located in the old Railway Station Building in the centre of town on South Western Highway.

  • Old Railway Station Bunbury

    Bunbury - The Old Railway Station at Carmody Place was burnt down in 1904. The building that replaced it is classic example of `turn of the century` stations, built when rail was the vital transportation of the period. The station shows bent rail roof brackets and classical details on chimneys and windows.

    The Old Railway Station is now home to the Tourist Bureau and acts as the local Bus Depot as well.

  • Old Timber Jetty

    Bunbury - The timber jetty was commenced in 1864 and was to be 427 metres in length. In 1957, after several extensions, it reached its ultimate length of 1,830 metres.

    Due to the development of the inner harbour during the 1970s the jetty ceased commercial shipping in October, 1982. It is now used for pedestrian traffic and is a popular fishing and crabbing spot.

  • St Boniface Cathedral

    Bunbury - The foundation stone for the impressive Anglican Cathedral church of St Boniface was laid in 1961. The cathedral was consecrated on 14 October 1962 on land originally purchased in 1916.

    The most unusual feature of the cathedral is the big tower at the east end crowning the sanctuary rather than at the customary west end or in the centre.

  • St Marks Church

    St Marks ChurchBunbury - This picturesque church has been lovingly restored to capture its original appearance on the day it was opened in 1842.

    It was built by John Ramsden Wollaston, who worked with his sons constructing the church with pit-sawn timber and wattle and daub.

    St. Mark`s is reputed to be the third oldest church in Western Australia. In the churchyard you`ll see the graves of many of the pioneers of the Bunbury district.

  • St Nicholas Church

    Australind - Reputed to be the smallest church in Australia. The St. Nicholas Church is only 3.6 metres wide and 8.2 metres long. It was built in 1848 originally as a worker`s cottage and is still used for services today.

  • Steam Locomotive Museum

    Collie - Trains were purchased and restored with the help of the Collie Apex Club after being abandoned by the Government when the change from coal to oil took place.

    The small engine `Polly` has been in the area since early 1911 and was originally a traction engine when driven overland from Kelmscott to Collie.
