    Pinjarra - On North Spur Road, Alcoa Scarp Lookout is sited in country cleared for farming, and overlooks the Pinjarra Alumina Refinery. A shaded parking area, five tables and barbecues are provided together with a children`s play area and cubby house.

    Wood for fires is scarce, and visitors should collect their own on route. A display board at the site explains the Alcoa Project and gives details and times of tours available.

  • Christs Church Anglican Church

    Mandurah - Built in 1871, this church replaced an earlier church which was destroyed by fire. The church has hand-crafted pews believed to be the work of an early settler named Joseph Cooper. Many of the district`s early settlers are buried in the churchyard, including Thomas Peel the district`s first settler.

    Boddington - The picturesque churches situated at Marradong 1894 and Quindanning provide a quiet interlude and a stroll through the graveyards will tell a poignant story of the district`s past. Dilyan`s lonely grave adjacent to the Boddington Cemetery is the final resting place of a man who gave great service to the early explorers, notably H.S. Ranford on his Cambridge Gulf Expedition in the early 1880`s.

  • Edenvale

    Pinjarra - Located on the corner of George and Henry Streets and built in 1888, Edenvale is the former residence of Edward McLarty and former premier of Western Australia Sir Ross Mclarty, and their families.

    The building contains seventeen rooms and two cellars. At present, Edenvale houses the Murray Tourist Centre and Murray Districts Arts and Crafts Society and Heritage Tearooms.

  • Estuary Drive

    Mandurah - An alternative way to see the lovely Peel Inlet and Harvey Estuary is to
    detour from the Old Coast Road along the Estuary Scenic Drive. The road
    weaves through green bushland down to the inlet then follows it for
    several kilometres. Along the way there are many attractive homes and
    secluded picnic spots beside the water.

  • Foreshore Reserve

    Foreshore ReserveMandurah - Walk, jog, cycle or just sit alongside the estuary at Mandurah’s picturesque foreshore reserve.   • Forest Heritage Centre

    Forest Heritage CentreDwellingup - Just one hundred kilometres from Perth, you will find the Forest Heritage Centre, a unique leaf shaped building set deep in the forest at Dwellingup.

    Inside you will find an interpretive leaf, working School of Wood and a Fine Wood Gallery.

    Outside there is a series of walks which highlight the forest ecology, aboriginal use of the forest, our timber history and a canopy walk through the tree tops.

  • Gold Mine Hill

    Pinjarra - Gold Mine Hill gives sweeping views over the Coastal Plain to Mandurah in the north and Bunbury in the south. Mine shafts and diggings can still be found with chunks of quartz scattered through the area. No gold was ever found.

    Barbecue facilities are available.

  • Heritage Rose Garden

    Pinjarra - This is the only Heritage Rose Garden in the south-west region. The garden has been established on a historic site, and was designed to compliment historic buildings in the immediate area.

    A memorial section within the rose garden was opened on 19 February 1995 and dedicated to the fallen soldiers of the area.

    Over 600 rose bushes are in the garden, the youngest dating from 1953 to the oldest 3,000 BC.

  • Heron Point

    Coolup - Heron Point is located off the Old Bunbury Road down Fisherman`s Road approximately 30 kilometres south of Pinjarra.

    It is a popular camping spot for fisherman, even though no facilities are provided. The crabbing, prawning and fishing are excellent with a magnificent view across the Harvey Estuary.

    Surrounding the land is a flora and fauna reserve.

  • James Service Anchor

    Mandurah - The anchor is a relic from the tragic wreck of an iron barque which foundered on the Murray Reef north of Mandurah during a storm in 1878. There were no survivors and many of the victims are buried in the churchyard where the anchor was located after recovery from the reef in 1963.

  • Marrinup Prisoner of War Camp (Number 16)

    Marrinup - One Prisoner of War camp and 30 control centres were located in Western Australia. The Number 16 Prisoner of War compound and garrison, was built at Marrinup, 83 kilometres south of Perth, to provide farm labour and cut firewood for the state capital.

  • Nanga Mill

    Dwellingup - Nanga Mill is situated within Lane Poole Reserve, off the Nanga Road in a grove of tall Pines, 15 kilometres south of the Dwellingup Post Office. This area has facilities for both group and car access camping.

    Toilets, fireplaces and tables are built under the Pines and there is plenty of dead wood in the surrounding forest for the fireplaces. Fees are applicable.

  • Oakley Dam and Falls

    Dwellingup - Situated just off Scarp Road. The falls and dam offer a lookout with fantastic views over the coastal plains. The spot is perfect for a picnic with barbecue facilities provided.

    It was originally built as a water stop for steam locomotives.

  • Old Blythewood

    Pinjarra - Old Blythewood is situated on the South Western Highway, 92 kilometres south of Perth on a high bank overlooking the flats of the Murray River, five kilometres beyond the town of Pinjarra.

    It was built about 1859, as the first Post Office by John McLarty who came to Swan River Settlement in 1839. He acquired considerable land holdings around Pinjarra, much of which is still farmed by his descendants.

    Peel PotteryMandurah - Peel Pottery has the largest individual range of pottery in Mandurah and the Peel Region. Specialising in small to medium size functional stoneware pottery to suit the travelling tourist.

    There is also a large range of Pit Fired and Raku Pottery which is all made by Murray and Pam Lewis. Children also have the unique opportunity to make their own piece of pottery in an air conditioned studio and take it home.

  • Pioneer Memorial Park

    Pinjarra - The Pioneer Memorial Park is located opposite historic Edenvale in George Street (just over the bridge). This was once part of Edenvale Estate and has some of the oldest oak and pine trees in the district. The park reaches down to the Murray River and is an ideal spot to stop and a picnic.

  • Ranford Pool

    Boddington - The pool is situated at the end of River Road, Ranford. It provides a pleasant resting place for canoeing, birdwatching, fishing and more.
    Red Fin Perch can be caught in Ranford Pool.

  • Scarp Pool

    Dwellingup - Scarp Pool is located on the Murray River, three kilometres south of Scarp Lookout off the Scarp road.

    This is a popular picnic and swimming area, designed for day use only. A parking area is situated near several barbecues and tables on the hillside. There is a scenic view overlooking the river.

  • South Dandalup Dam

    Dwellingup - South Dandalup Dam is situated 15 kilometres along Del Park road from turn off at North Dandalup.

    It supplies domestic water to Perth, and has the largest capacity in the metropolitan water system.

    A picnic area, walk track and lookout are provided but the dam is off limits for any recreational use. Wildflowers can be seen during the months of September to October.

  • St Johns Anglican Church

    Pinjarra - St. John`s Anglican Church was built in 1861 and is still being used by the Anglicans of the Pinjarra area.

    The church building is surrounded by Pinjarra`s first cemetery which was used until the Road Board public cemetery was established in 1904. Reserved burials have occurred up until the late 1960`s.

  • Sutton Family Homestead

    Mandurah - The house was built about 1880 from limestone and pit sawn timber.

    It is a large eleven room home with 18 inch thick walls. The original owner, Henry Sutton, was responsible for establishing a thriving dairy and cattle industry in Mandurah. The Sutton family sold the property in 1977.

    There are other historic buildings on the property including a two roomed limestone workmen`s cottage.
