  • Billum-Billum Monks Well

    Dalwallinu - On your left as you enter from the south end of the Dalwallinu townsite you will see the old well which supplied the early settlers and travellers with water.

    The well was built in 1909 by two brothers, Albert and Frederick Ellison.

    The timber built up around the well was Gimlett, Salmon Gum or other long and straight timbers which grew close to the well that met government standard.

  • Buntine Rock

    Buntine - Buntine Rock is located two kilometres east of Buntine. Buntine has its picnic areas just east of the town. A large rock juts up into the air like a castle with flat rocks scattered about. The area boasts a wide variety of wildflowers are to be found in the area.

  • Camel Soak

    Perenjori - A delightful picnic spot forty-seven kilometres east of Perenjori. This granite catchment, also known as `The Rock Hole` was sunk as a watering point for men and their camel team working on the No.2 Rabbit Proof Fence in 1903 to 1905.

  • Canna Reserve

    Canna - Subject to seasonal rains this is an excellent wildflower location from late July to November. The reserve is the location of scenic rocky outcrops. For information about the Canna Reserve contact the Canna Store, telephone 08 9972 2022.

  • Chapel of The Dominican Convent

    Chapel of The Dominican ConventYalgoo - Located at the end of Henty Street, it is one of the town`s landmarks.

    The Convent Chapel was built in 1919 by Monsignor Hawes for the Dominican Sisters.

    Key available from the Yalgoo Shire Office during office hours.

  • Courthouse Museum Yalgoo

    Yalgoo - The Courthouse Museum is located in Gibbons Street behind the telecom building. The Museum has an excellent collection with many exhibits of the past 80 years. These include original documents, harnesses, photographs, domestic items and aboriginal artefacts.

  • Dalwallinu Remnant Bushland

    Dalwallinu Remnant BushlandDalwallinu - The natural areas of bush present a changing pattern during the spring, with most years offering a profusion of wildflowers during the months of August, September and October. From pink, white and lemon everlastings, the vivid colour of the local grevilleas, damperia, spectacular `Wreath Flower` and the profusion of the yellow to orange wattles throughout the countryside are a photographers dream and a budding botanists paradise.

  • Holy Cross Church

    Holy Cross ChurchMorawa - The Holy Cross Catholic Church was built in 1932 in Morawa. Designed along Spanish mission lines, it is a simple historic church built out of local stone, notably without the ornamentation common in other heritage churches of that era.

  • Jibberding

    Wubin - On the Great Northern Highway, some twenty-five kilometres from Wubin, Jibberding has always been a popular spot for northern residents.

    The rocks are smaller here but everlastings are plentiful making it a pleasant picnic spot. Nearby are the old tennis courts and cricket ground.
    The rabbit proof fence passes this area.

  • John Forrest Lookout

    Perenjori - The crypt marked by the explorer Sir John Forrest on his expedition to Cue and
    Daydawn in 1897.

    Barbecues, picnic facilities and toilets are available.

  • Jokers Tunnel

    Yalgoo - Jokers Tunnel is located ten kilometres south of Yalgoo on the Paynes Find Road (signposted). It is a tunnel carved through solid rock by early prospectors searching for gold, and is named after the Joker Mining Syndicate.

    Spend some time viewing the different rock types and take in the fauna and wildlife in the area. There are panoramic views from the parking area near the entrance to the tunnel.

  • Koolanooka Springs

    Morawa - Situated approximately 24 kilometres east of the Morowa township this picturesque picnic spot boasts natural scrub and native wildlife. You also have the opportunity to see Morowa`s floral emblem, the Grevillea Tenuiloba.

    Barbecue facilities are provided.

  • Lake Nullewa

    Morawa - Lake Nullewa is an excellent spot for birdwatchers. With good seasonal rains the lake is often frequented by pelicans and swans.

    The lake is located near the historic town of Morawa in the centre of the Wheatbelt. The town has become a tourist favourite for its natural scrubland and native wildlife. Wildflowers are stunning from July to September.

  • McIntosh Park

    Pithara - Site of an aircrash in 1921. John Cowe Mcintosh flew from England to Australia in 1920. He was giving joy-rides to locals when tragically, a single engine De Haviland crashed. It was the first fatal air disaster in Western Australia.

    The park is perfect for a relaxing picnic.

  • Miamoon Reserve

    Wubin - A delightful picnic spot 18 kilometres west of Wubin amongst the flat rocks. Orchids abound during spring. There is a very deep gnamma hole on the east side of the reserve. Nearby is a telecommunications tower.

  • Monsignor Hawes Chapel of St Hyacinth

    Yalgoo - Located at the end of Henty Street, it is one of the town`s landmarks. The chapel was built in 1919 by Monsignor Hawes for the Dominican Sisters who lived in a wooden convent school, located near the chapel, that overlooked the town.

    There is a poingnant beauty in this little chapel that was built so far out in the outback for the few people who prayed there.

    Visitors who visit during the hotter months are reminded of the harshness and loneliness of the lives of the Dominican Sisiters.

  • Moora Heritage Trail

    Moora - Points of interest on the Moora Heritage Trail are Pankee, Moore Park, Walebing Post Office, Ranfurly Park, Walebing Homestead, Koojan Post Office and Reserve, Old Walebing Cemetery, Koojan, Berkshire Valley, Mangin and Kiaka Town walk.

    Heritage trail books are available from the Moora Shire Office, 34 Padbury Street, between 0900 and 1640 Monday to Friday, and at the Library adjacent or the Moora Caravan Park on Saturday between 1000 and 1200.

  • Petrudor Rocks

    Pithara - Located 33 kilometres east of Pithara, just off the Pithara-Kalannie Road, Petrudor Rocks is a popular picnic spot in the spring.

    A large expanse of rock in an unspoilt tract of bush, it gives, on a clear day, a view to the McLevie Bin to the north of Dalwallinu.

  • Pindarri Soak

    Perenjori - Pindarri Soak is a popular picnic area and lookout 65 kilometres north east of Perenjori.

  • Pintharuka Dam

    Morawa - The dam was sunk in 1936 for settlers use with water guided to the dam by a series of rock walls and drains built by Depression Relief Employment. Today the surrounding area supports a variety of birds, mammals, reptiles and wildflowers.

    The war rock is located near the dam and legend has it that it received its name after a boundary war between local Aboriginal tribes.

  • Prison Cell & Old Courthouse Dalwallinu

    Dalwallinu - A courthouse and prison used in the 1920`s. Snowy Rowles, a prisoner escaped from here. He was hung in 1930 for the murder of two men on the rabbit-proof fence. This building has been re-located and restored.

  • Rabbit-Proof Fence Boundary

    Dalwallinu - This fence was constructed in the earlier part of the century to try and stop the invasion of rabbits into Western Australia.

    It stretches from Hopetoun, 1,827 kilometres to Cape Keraudren on the north west coast.

  • Railway Station

    Yalgoo - One of the few remaining station buildings on the Mullewa/Meekathara line.
    The old railway station is now the Yalgoo Sporting Complex, fully restored. A lovely place to stop for a break. Toilet facilities are available. An information bay is adjacent to the building.

  • Rothsay Ghost Town

    Perenjori - 77 kilometres east of Perenjori is the ghost town of Rothsay. Gold was discovered here in 1894 and within a year all the leases had been pegged.

    In its heyday, Rothsay had a population of 500, the town experienced a second lease of life during the 1930s when a company financed by the flamboyant mining entrepreneur, Claude de Bernales, re-opened the mine in 1932.

  • The Five Graves

    Dalwallinu - There are five graves side by side at the entrance to Dalwallinu Cemetery. These are the graves of Gus Leibe, his partner Albert Klein, and descendants Sydney Collins and his wife Hedward and their son Albert.

    Gus Leibe was one of the outstanding characters of 1920 to 1930. Gus Leibe was the builder of His Majesty`s Theatre in Perth, the Peninsula Hotel in Maylands and the Western Australian Art Gallery. His life story is well worth reading.

  • Vermin Proof Fence

    Perenjori - Originally called the `Rabbit Proof Fence`, it runs north and south, 37 kilometres east of Perenjori.

    The enormous task of building such a fence from the South to the North Coast, was first undertaken in 1901 to combat the devastation caused by rabbits to cereal crops and pasture land.

  • Watheroo National Park

    Watheroo - Located in the Central West Coast sandplain 200 kilometres of Perth, the park covers 44,324 hectares.

    Watheroo National Park is accessible from all directions by good Gravel Roads. No internal access is provided.

    It is sandplain country, bordered to the east by a low creek flowing south to Moore River. Eastern area around Jingamia Cave has rock outcrops.   • Wubin Rocks

    Wubin - East of Wubin on Great Northern Highway is an outcrop of rocks. This spot overlooking farm paddocks and bushland is ideal for picnics. Wildflowers are prolific during spring.

  • Wubin`s Three Graves

    Wubin - Located three kilometres off Great Northern Highway are the graves of three of the town`s pioneers.

  • Xantippe

    Dalwallinu - Thirty kilometres to the east of Dalwallinu is an interesting spot. It is one of the highest points around the district and a climb to the top of the hill gives one a panoramic view to the east.

    A large granite rock and water catchment area, it has a large cement tank built in the late twenties to provide fresh water for the surrounding district - a scarce commodity in the early days.

  • Yalgoo Cemetery

    Yalgoo - Situated five kilometres from Yalgoo on the Yalgoo-Mullewa Road. The cemetery is a fascinating glimpse into Yalgoo`s past.
