Ballina - Overlooking the entrance to the river and the main surfing beach which is patrolled over the holiday periods, Ballina Lighthouse stands in a strategic position on Lighthouse Hill. Built in 1879 by Alston and Perry it is one of the oldest lighthouses in NSW. It is situated 35 metres above the high tide mark and its range of light is approximately 20 kilometres. Originally it was manually operated and converted to automatic operation in 1926, the light power being 1500 candles.

The Thursday Plantation Education Centre features an interactive display centre, video theatre, The Verandah Cafe, The Factory Cafe, The Factory Shop, The Gift Shop, a sculpture garden featuring 80 magnificent sculptures, the Tea Tree Maze, a natural ampitheatre and a rainforest walk.
The Centre is open seven days a week from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. and entry is free.
