Visitors are welcome to tour the registered export establishment of the world`s leading yabby processors. Cambinata Yabbies was established in 1991 by Michael and Mary Nenke and their six children on the family`s wheat and sheep property, 300 kilometres south east of Perth. The yabby export business and grain producing farm is situated on the edge of the tiny wheatbelt town of Kukerin - an unlikely place to find a fish processing factory exporting to the world.
Cambinata Yabbies has grown from a small tank on the side of a dam to a sophisticated export establishment incorporating innovative state of the art equipment (Tony McAuliffe - Australian Quarantine Inspection Services). Initially supplying one restaurant in Perth, Cambinata has now established markets in Europe, Asia and United States of America. Yabbies are sourced from a register of nearly 700 farmers over an area of approximately 200,000 square kilometres.
Visitors may make purchases of live yabbies and the company`s unique range of gourmet yabbies (chilli, sweet spicy and lemon yabbies in jars). Meals and tastings are available for pre-booked groups.
In October the family runs a unique cultural and gourmet experience - Cambinata Extravaganza. The evening commences with a mini trade show of regional products followed by a five course meal in the shearing shed, surrounded by beautiful wild flowers, local art and rural memorabilia. The silver service meal is heralded by the haunting music of the didgeridoo and accompanied by live music and a bracket of bush poetry. Visitors are welcome to camp in the paddock or stay at local hotels and bed and breakfasts. The following morning farm eggs and bacon are available followed by tours of the farm and region. Guests enthuse about the ambience of the evening, entertainment, fine food and wines. Bookings are limited with those interested registering early.
This award winning business, Cambinata Yabbies, offers visitors a unique Australian experience.
