St George`s Cathedral is a charming historic building which was consecrated in 1888. It is one of only a few cathedrals constructed of handmade bricks. Its gothic revival design can best be appreciated from the street, though it is well worth taking the time to go inside and step back in time.
Check out the beautiful stained glass windows, as well as memorials to Western Australian pioneers, community leaders and those who served in the wars of the twentieth century. The Soldiers` Chapel is also a place of special interest.
It is located on St Georges Terrace the heart of Perth`s heritage precinct. It is surrounded by the Treasury Buildings, The Perth Town Hall, Government House, Council House, and St Andrew`s Uniting Church.
The Cathedral`s peal of bells, can be heard each Sunday before the 10am Choral Eucharist and 5pm Choral Evensong. These services also feature the widely acclaimed Cathedral Choir.
This precious building is being restored to its former glory and preserved for future generations. Stop in on a walking tour of the historic buildings of the City centre.
